Sports Residency Program

Our mission is to prepare the resident to function within all guidelines of Sports Physical Therapy care and to become a productive member of the Sports Physical Therapy community through education, research, and medical care.

Our goals include developing competent Sports Physical Therapy Specialists in accordance with current ABPTS Description of Specialty Practice for Sports Physical Therapy, to develop productive specialists as members of the sports rehabilitation team, and to develop educators for physical therapists and other members of the medical team including coaches, parents, athletes, and other staff members.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must hold, or be eligible for a Tennessee State Physical Therapy license.  If eligible for licensure, the licensee must be in place before beginning the residency program.

The applicant must possess one of the following:
- A current certification as an Athletic Trainer designation with Tennessee licensure
- A current license or certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or a certification as an Emergency First Responder (preferred course work through the Sports Physical Therapy Section of the Physical Therapy Association) or attain one of these designations within 1 month of beginning the Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program.
